Goals

Portland has been rainy and cold for the past couple weeks, it has been in the 40's every night...It has been so cold that I am actually looking forward to this forecast.
With this cold and rainy weather comes a craving for soups, bread, and hot chocolate to name a few. With these cravings I worry that my fitness goals and my weight loss will go out the window. I work out outside, I walk/jog with my mom and husband every night, but I have skipped the 2 nights last week (1 of which I ate cake and Starbursts instead of walking). I wish I had a gym membership, or a treadmill but I don't so I plan on bundling up and hitting the pavement, because if I lose 10 pounds by November 7th I get a $20 Target gift card!!! My husband and I set these goals about a month ago and I plan on earning mine, because who doesn't love Target? A crazy person that's who

Halloween Favorites

I am excited for Halloween this year! My older girls are going to be bumblebees and the baby will be a zebra. The costumes are all super cute and they were ridiculously inexpensive which you know I LOVE. 

We went to the pumpkin patch over a week ago, but the pumpkins are still sitting on the porch with nothing done to them, however I have found an idea on Pinterest that I may try.

Everyday With Hazel Mae



Today is Wednesday, hump day, halfway to the beloved weekend and today I am sharing with you a post from a blogger who I find quite inspirational, seriously she rocks! Abby has majorly changed her body through eating and exercise, and she looks awesome, here's Abby:
 
Hello, Hello!  I’m Abby and I write over at the blog, Everyday with Hazel Mae. When Myranda asked me to guest post I thought about what I was going to write. For those of you unfamiliar with me and my blog, I write about fashion, food, being a working mama to my 3 year old daughter Hazel and finding time in my busy schedule to enjoy the little things in life. In July, I made a life change and hopped on the fitness train. I have been taking steps to better my life and lose weight. And I’m feeling pretty great. So, what better topic to write about today?
This post has offered me a chance to dig deep into myself and reflect on my past and future goals and accomplishments. And has also made me think about the challenges I face on a daily basis trying to fit fitness into my daily routine.  Since I am a working Mom and have a 45 minute commute to and from work each day, getting to the gym isn’t always top of mind. But somehow I make it work!
I reached a point about 3 1/2 months ago when I realized, “I can’t live like this anymore.” I think we all encounter this feeling from time to time. For me, I was growing tired of what seemed like a nightly routine of vegetation in front of my TV screen to “unwind”.  I was tired of always feeling tired!
For as long as I can remember, I have not been happy with my body - I have always been complacent. I never really thought about needing to lose weight until after Hazel was born. Before that, I’d give diets a half ass try and then quit because I’d splurge once or twice and look at it like it was the end of the world and then give up. I looked at being a new, nursing mom as I looked at being pregnant: an excuse to eat whatever I wanted! Reality check, those extra calories have to go somewhere (*ahem* my spare tire? You know what I’m talking about ladies!).
I felt I needed to get to a place where I was finally healthy and fit enough to keep up with my running toddler and enjoy the active time we spend together. I want my daughter to grow up with healthy role models and I want her to see that exercise can be fun.  Because it is!
My proudest moment on my weight loss journey so far was running my first (and only so far) timed 5K race. In September, some girlfriends and I did Race for the Cure in downtown Portland. I walked it last year and this year I was determined to do the run. I started running as simple way to get some good high cardio exercise into each day because I didn’t always have the time to go to the gym. I was nervous that I would not be able to do the 3 miles or I’d get intimidated by the other runners and my slow pace - but of course I completed it and it felt awesome. I also do Zumba once a week which has really helped me get out of the house and get my body moving. I love this because its one hour a week where I can totally relax, let my inhibitions go and dance! It’s so fun.

My diet, hands down is my biggest challenge. When I decided that I wanted to lose a good deal of weight I knew that I couldn’t do it alone. I had heard some friends talk about MyFitnessPal and decided to join. MyFitnessPal is an online weight loss program that has a food diary to track calories. I am “allowed” to eat a certain amount of calories per day and this has really helped me focus on the value of what I am eating. I am a snack-a-holic and would just munch on anything I could get my hands on between meals. Now I make healthier choices because I have a better handle on my nutrition. I still allow myself to splurge because if I didn’t I would go insane. I like sweets WAY too much to let them go completely but it is a daily struggle for me. I think that paying attention to the amount of food I eat each day has really contributed to the amount of weight I have lost.
It’s difficult for me to look at this before photo – it was taken only 4 months ago at the end of June. I think it was upon seeing this completely candid picture of me that whipped me into shape and motivated me to get my butt in gear.
My ultimate weight loss goal is 150 lbs. I started out at 189 and I have lost 20 lbs so far. I keep telling myself “You’re half way there! You’ve got this!” And I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Though I am proud of my accomplishments, I know I still have a long way to go. It’s more of a lifestyle change than anything else and I plan to keep this up for the rest of my life. I think I have reached a point where I am ready to commit to a more rigorous workout routine and step my game up a bit in order to get the results I really want. I am finally looking at myself in a new light and am beginning to see the body underneath that I never knew I had.
